View Full Version : Given up on Vista

Well I have officially given up on Windows Vista for a while. I was reading yesterday about some crashing I have been having since I have installed vista and found some startling news. Over 30% of crashes in Vista have to do with Nvidia hardware. Which sucks for me because I run a Nvidia 680I Motherboard and a 8800 GTS video card. The other thing that pissed me off was the fact that the creative drivers for my sound card sucked for vista so I have gone back to XP Pro 64bit. I do miss already the nice look of vista but XP feels so much like home and I'm kinda glad I'm back. So for everyone that has Vista and Nvidia products. Try to keep your drivers up to date as possible so maybe you won't get as frustrated as me.
snaz...OUT and on XP

Still have yet to install vista on a computer I have built and I've built 4 since vista's release.
BTW Creative's idea of limiting how much your sound card can do in vista so that you will have to upgrade seems like one of the most rotten tricks around.

PSSSHHHHH, and when I was telling you how much I hated Vista you were like "Oh, but Vista Business is soooo great! *Japanese pose with peace sign*" Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what you said and with that same pose.

Ive had less problems with my vista premium home than i did with XP. Im still running the XP machine and gaming on the new vista machine. Not a single crash yet. My biggest problem with XP was sound related game crash issues in CSS.

I only had issues with Vista x86. Switched to x64 a few months ago and zero problems so far. Vista Ultimate x64 FTW!
Note that I have zero nVidia hardware

meh, M$ released that report on the Vista crashes being caused by Nvidia drivers. That report was from the beginning of Vista's life. New os with such strong demands is going to be demanding and not perfect in any way. I too almost went back to xp (but not 64bit xp cause it is a half ass os), then sp1 for vista came out and bam!!! All problems fixed that I was having. Since sp1 I have rolled multiple machines out at work using Vista 32 & 64 bit os's, not a glitch not even a hickup to say the least. Now these aren't gaming systems, they're mostly programmers machines. Though my machine at home has Nvidia products and have not had a problem. I wonder Snaz if its the age of the mobo its been out for awhile maybe a 780 board would work better? Or dare I say 790?
Me for one I'll stay with Intel's offerings.
Now when it comes to dream weaver CS3 I FUCKING HATE IT. Its crap and under heavy heavy use its worthless.
I for one am happy with Vista and will never go back. Though I do look forward to Windows 7 and its (supposedly) improvements they're talking about.

I liked vista a bunch until windows and Nvidia keep wrecking each others shit.
I had sp1 installed and the same bullshit. Fucking windows breaking nvidia drivers. I was fine until the last group of manditory updates by vista that installed while I was out of town. Now its fucked and I'm running XP X64 until nvidia and Microsoft get along.

the same exact thing happens to me. It chashes for no reason sometimes.

I guess I'm one of the few vista64 success stories? Every once in a while css crashes... not sure why. Overall I like the look of vista and most of the features it offers. Honestly, I feel a little more comfortable on xp because, like everyone else, I have used it for so long and I know better! Also helping me like vista is the fact that i switched to it at the same time as i got all shiny new hardware!
-no nvidia hardware... intel chipsets all the way!
Actually for me since I'm a mobile vista user cause its on my laptop since i dont have a USB porter floppy drive to go to XP but anyways updating my nvidia actually was fucking my computer. Atleast its my theory i started getting a dxgkernel error i never really looked it up but i assume its Direct X Graphics kernel or something like that.

I consider vista an upgrade, I never really liked XP... I stayed on windows 98 for quite a while.
Hell, I will put anything on my computer as long as it's free, and is capable of playing the games I want.

Dare I say it's the hw manufacturers putting out shitty drivers in the first place??? With all the delays, they got fucking lazy and then when the time came they weren't prepared and the users suffered and vista was blamed. Vista's fine...we should all be pissed at the vendors...
I have only had one serious issue with vista and that was because of a fucked up nvidia driver...and it wasn't windows that was breaking it...it was the driver breaking windows.
