Hello all,
I just wanted to post some instructions and tips for recording and playing back demos. I know there are a bunch of you that ask how to so here it is the guide:
Recording a demo:
Step 1: Go Spectate and spec the cheater.
Step 1a: For admin only - Open admin menu and select 1 then 9 then 4 for auto observe then select the cheater from the list.
Step 2: Open console
Step 3: Type record <DEMONAME>
Step 4: Type status
Step 5: After you feel that you have enough evidence type stop in console.
And that's it!
Playing a demo:
Step 1: Open CS:S but do not select a server.
Step 2: Open console
Step 3: Type playdemo <DEMONAME>
Step 4: While watching demo press Shift + F2 to bring up the playback controls
Step 5: (optional) While watching a demo open console and type sv_cheats 1 and then mat_wireframe 1 this will take most of the textures out of maps so you can see if people are walling.
As far as the length of demos go use your own judgement. The demo should definitely be more then 1 min long. I usually record for atleast 3 rounds if not longer it really depends on the hack. If it is speed hacking then its pretty obvious, however if it's walls the recording should be longer.
