you're in the same boat as semper I believe. find his thread and you will find a few nugg's of information. i think the gtx260 is a popular choice. anything newer than your card is probably a good choice

yeah. I want to get something good. I do not want to get something that is just going to fry after the first year and then i have to go through all that BS of sending it in to the company and then they send it back and say some shit like it was my fault.

I've never had problems with BFG cards.. well, i wouldn't say never.. but they last for years and years. I've only had to replace BFG's because the games got too good for it, not because it fried.

BFG gtx260 or 280 would rock your casbah.

So in your price range this is what you'd get... and it's one hell of a card. You won't have to get a new one for a looooong time.

Quick question while I"m here.. I know that SLi no longer needs the same brand but only the chipset.. Now..... I have an 8800 GT OC2 512. Does this mean I need to get a 2nd GT OC2 for it to work? OC2 just means that it's the same as a normal GT, except every chip is 100% tested and is kind of "the pick of the litter" when it comes to what chips are used. (some chips preform better than others.. the highest preforming chips go into things like the OC and OC2 series)

SO.. yea.. is it still considered the same chip even though it has the OC2 tag? I would think so.

yeah you have to have 2 of the same cards to do it.

Yesss. but what I'm asking is if 8800 GT 512 is the same as an 8800 GT 512 OC2.. they are technically the exact same chip, it's just the OC2 ones clocked higher than the ones that went into the GT. Same chip, same card, different preformance. Im just wondering if it matters or not.

Edit.. you don't have to have the same brand name anymore.. BFG XFX EVGA etc can all be mixed together in SLi as long as it's the same chipset.

To the OP: It really depends on what your other components are in your computer. Like for example, if you have a Pent 4 then it doesn't really matter what video card you buy because you are going to be CPU limited. If you have a C2D or newer then I would suggest a 260 or 4890. Those are the two best bang for the buck cards out.

The new ATI cards come out on Sept. 23. This will bring price down on current cards if you can wait.

Mari you should be able to pair it with another 8800GT 512MB, the other card will need to be clocked down to match it.

It will work without any probs, but your speed will be of your slowest card and lowest memory

even then though it will still be better then just one.

For the record.. if you have the chance to get an OC or even better an OC2 version of a vid card... DO IT.

I would go with the BFG for the same price (minus the free game which is a gimmick).. BFG's just a better brand, better built and better software. It's my opinion but I've tried EVGA before and, although it's ok, BFG is better in the long run.

Edit: Also it slightly depends on what CPU you have. If you're running on AMD then nVidia is DEFINITELY the way to go... nVidia and AMD are an awesome pair, but from the nVidia 9 series chipset or later then Intel and AMD are about the same. I'm also an AMD guy.. fucking love AMD cpu's. By far the best bang for your buck. nVidia + AMD ftw.
